Partner, Studio Matter
Maanasi Hattangadi is a partner at Matter <studiomatter.in>, a studio focused on architecture, design and curatorial projects in India. Matter has conceived and executed projects of multiple scales and various contexts with built and conceptual work since its inception. Matter believes in the significance of India’s enormous potential in the quest of an appropriate architecture. Matter’s content platforms such as ThinkMatter, an online portal, [IN]SIDE journal, The Merit List, Frame Conclave in India, aim to instigate meaningful discussions to celebrate the diversity and richness of ideas and practices that are quintessentially Indian and relate to challenges and opportunities presented by its context.
Maanasi pursued her undergraduate studies from The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda in 2009 and graduated from the Master of Architecture programme at CEPT with a major in History, Theory, Criticism in 2019. Before embarking on her independent practice in 2014, she co-edited Indian Architect & Builder magazine for five years. She has also taught as a Visiting Faculty at NITTE School of Architecture. Since 2020, she is the Programme Curator at Arthshila Ahmedabad, a centre focusing on architecture, design and visual culture. Over the years, her varied interests have engaged her in simple documentation projects and several cross-disciplinary publications & programmes as an independent writer and in other capacities.
